Your personal guide is very experienced and knowledgeable about the amazing nature that attracts so many tourists to this country, and  knows a lot about African culture and customs. So don’t hesitate to ask him questions from the beginning – he loves to answer all of them!

The next day your journey really kicks off!

Accommodation: Planet Lodge is one of the most beautiful lodges in Arusha, situated in a beautiful, natural environment close to the city. The lodge has a lovely swimming pool, making it the ideal place to relax with a tasty drink. The beautiful rooms. gorgeous restaurant and lovely food make it the perfect place to start your safari.

Day 2: Arusha National Park

Today you will go for you first real game drive. After a delicious breakfast your guide will start the car and commence the drive to Arusha National Park!

The Arusha NP is known for its abundance of tropical birds. With over four hundred different species in this relatively small park, you can see them easily when driving through the tropical rainforest! You will probably spot the Silvery Cheeked Hornbill and in some seasons the park’s lakes are filled with thousands and thousands of flamingos, including the rare Greater Flamingo. The park also has some beautiful craters, waterfalls, mountains and grassy planes.

Arusha NP is known as the home of the rare Black and White Colobus Monkey, which you can recognize by its long tale. Its name stems from its blunt thumb: Colobus is from the Greek Kolobos, which means stump. It’s a rare monkey and that makes it the reason to visit the park.

If at any time you are fed up of sitting in the car, you can opt to do a walking safari with an Arusha ranger. This makes bird spotting even easier and allows you to come close to a bunch of other animals. A real wildlife experience!

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

After a delicious breakfast you will drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is well known for its big groups of elephants and the huge amount of giant baobab trees that can live for hundreds of years. In the dry season it’s possible to see groups of up to 250 elephants here! They can weigh up to six thousand kilos and have a special technique to draw water from the baobab trees. Your private guide can tell you everything about this.

But Tarangire has many more wild animals, which you can spot most easily at the Tarangire River or Lake Barunge – the main water sources of the park – when they come to relieve their thirst.

Tarangire NP also offers the possibility of a hot air balloon safari or to visit a traditional Maasai village, where you will see the simple way of life of the Maasai people, who prefer to live in small huts in the middle of the African savannah.

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park

Today you will enjoy the excellent view over Lake Manyara, see elephants up close in the woodlands and visit the renowned Manyara hippo pool where many, many hippos take to the water from early morning until late in the evening. Besides all this the park offers a great view of the 400 metres deep Great Rift Valley.

This tear in the earth came into existence 22 to 25 million years ago, when movement in a weak area of the earth’s crust led to the formation of a rift thousands of kilometres long through the whole of East Africa. The valley is so enormous it can be seen from outer space and it has many unique landscapes that attract a vast number of different animals. Besides being home to Lake Manyara itself you can also find dense rainforest here with hundreds of groups of monkeys and a huge number of birds.

Lake Manyara National Park also offers a Treetop Walk: a walk of over 370 meters over strong rope bridges, among the treetops of this beautiful, untouched, natural area. Experience nature from a whole new perspective and enjoy amazing views together with the tree dwelling animals, birds and butterflies!

Accommodation: Marera Valley Lodge with its beautiful rooms, good service, amazingly green garden and lovely swimming pool, offers really good value This is a little oasis in Tanzania. The lodge is well known for its wonderful cuisine; the owner, himself a chef, personally makes sure that the food is of a superb quality.

Day 5 to 7: Serengeti National Park

The highlight of the safari awaits you today – Serengeti National Park. Serengeti NP is widely known as the place to go on safari, mostly because of the great migration. Many of the most impressive nature films are shot during this movement of large animals, and together with your guide you will witness for yourself the enormous, stampeding herds on their search for food. An experience never to forget!

The word Serengeti stems from the Maasai language and literally means endless plains. Many predators roam these vast grasslands; over four thousand lions, 225 cheetahs, a thousand leopards, 3500 hyenas and hundreds of wild dogs! And of course, plenty of other beautiful animals, which your guide will be delighted to search for together with you. Are you ready for this?

The Serengeti is exceptionally beautiful, and the best way to see its splendor is from a hot air balloon. For a unique experience, take a balloon safari! You will soar over the planes, get close to the animals and have the most magnificent views.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today you will visit one of the seven African wonders –  the Ngorongoro Crater, created when a huge volcano erupted two million years ago. The fertile lava has created a unique ecosystem; the crater has the highest concentration of animals anywhere in Africa! While descending from the rim onto the crater floor you will be surrounded by the most beautiful animals. When below, the views are astounding – you won’t know where to look!

The Ngorongoro Crater is home to many lion families, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests and many more species. And nowhere else offers a chance as good as this to spot the rare black rhino. So if you want to see the big five – this is the place to be!

For something extra, you can opt to visit a traditional Maasai village. See their simple way of living, in their small huts in the middle of the vast planes.
