For Real Adventure
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by an African Overland representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel, recover from your journey, and prepare for the exciting safari adventure ahead.
Arusha is the gateway to Tanzania’s famous Northern Safari Circuit and an ideal starting point for exploring the country’s spectacular national parks. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and located near Mount Meru, the city offers a peaceful introduction to Tanzania before you begin your wildlife journey.
Your safari representative will provide you with important information about the upcoming days and ensure that everything is ready for your adventure. If time permits, you may also explore a little of Arusha or simply enjoy a relaxing evening at the hotel.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park – Drive to Karatu
After breakfast, your African Overland safari guide will pick you up from your hotel and begin the scenic drive to Tarangire National Park, approximately 2.5 hours away on good tarmac roads. As you leave Arusha behind, you will pass through local villages and beautiful countryside before reaching one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife destinations.
Named after the Tarangire River, the park is particularly important to wildlife during the dry season when animals gather around its permanent water source. Tarangire is renowned for its impressive elephant herds, which can often be seen moving through the open grasslands, gathering around the river, or feeding beneath the park’s ancient baobab trees.
During your game drive, keep your eyes open for giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, and other antelope species. With some luck, you may also spot predators such as lions, leopards, or cheetahs. Tarangire is also a fantastic destination for bird lovers, with a remarkable variety of resident and migratory bird species adding color and activity to the landscape.
You will stop for a picnic lunch in a designated area before continuing with an afternoon game drive. The changing light of the afternoon creates beautiful scenery as wildlife becomes increasingly active. After exploring the park, you will leave Tarangire and drive toward Karatu, a charming town located near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Arrive at your accommodation in the evening, where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next exciting day of your Tanzania safari.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater – Return to Karatu
After an early breakfast, you will drive into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, often described as a “lost world” due to its breathtaking scenery and enclosed ecosystem. Formed millions of years ago by a collapsed volcano, the crater is home to one of the densest wildlife populations in Africa. During your game drive, you may see wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, hippos, elephants, lions, and the rare black rhino. Over 500 bird species also inhabit this natural wonder.
Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before ascending and returning to your lodge in Karatu.

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park – Return to Arusha
After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Manyara National Park, a compact but incredibly diverse park located along the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is famous for its soda lake, seasonal flamingo populations, and rich birdlife with over 500 recorded species.
You may also encounter elephants in the forest, troops of baboons, and the famous tree-climbing lions that Manyara is known for. The dramatic scenery combines lush forest, open plains, and the towering Rift Valley wall.
After a picnic lunch and a final game drive, you will drive back to Arusha. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel, Arusha Airport, or Kilimanjaro International Airport, marking the end of your safari with African Overland.
